 About the Society

The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The major objectives of the institute are to train manpower, render clinical services, conduct research and educate the public on issues related to communication disorders. AIISH, established in 1966, has turned out thousands and thousands of highly trained professionals who are serving with distinction in many countries across the globe. The institute is the primary advisor to the Government of India for policy formulation in the field of speech and hearing.  The institute plays a major role in implementing the schemes and programs of the Government of India particularly in the domain of prevention and identification of communication disorders in the country.  The institute has state of art infrastructure for research and conducts basic as well as applied research.  In summary, the institute works for better communication for all.

  About the Journal

The Journal of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (JAIISH) is an online-only, international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal. It is published by the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in line with its objective of promoting research on communication and its disorders. JAIISH, published for the first time in 1970, provides a platform for sharing research outcome in the areas of speech, language, hearing, and allied areas.

It is the first among the three peer-reviewed Indian journals on communication disorders. Its editorial board includes well-known names in the field of speech and hearing. It hopes for wider indexing in other databases in the near future.

The journal is an open access journal. All the articles published in this journal can be accessed and downloaded, free of cost, by any individual. The journal does not charge any publication fee from the authors or access fee from anybody.

  Scope of the journal

JAIISH welcomes research and other scholarly articles on the normal and disordered processes of speech, language, hearing, and related areas such as cognition, special education, vestibular mechanism and its disorders, and swallowing. JAIISH hopes to be an international outlet for communicating outcomes of both basic research on communication processes and clinical research pertaining to screening, diagnosis, causes, characteristics and management of communication disorders. It emphasizes evidence-based practice by publishing systematic and critical reviews - both received and invited - and meta-analyses of previously published work. The journal also encourages researchers, policymakers, academicians, and clinicians to publish articles related to policies, pedagogy, and other empirical and theoretical-based perspectives in the field of speech-language pathology and audiology. The Editor in-Chief may invite special editorials, book reviews and perspective papers.

The JAIISH publishes original and review articles in speech, language, hearing, and related fields. This includes assessment, diagnosis, and management of speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders and may pertain to children, adults, and/or geriatrics. Further, the journal also encourages professionals to publish articles related to policies, pedagogy, and other empirical and theoretical issues in the field of speech-language pathology and audiology. Manuscripts already published elsewhere will not be accepted for publication in the journal.

The editorial board maintains high ethical standards without compromising on the principles of research and standards of reporting. The focus of the editorial board will be on the content and methods of the work as well as the on the implication and application of research outcome.

The journal will make all efforts to ensure the authenticity of the information published in the journal, but it is not responsible for any inadvertent error or inaccuracy that might have crept in. The onus of ensuring the accuracy, appropriateness of the content, and perspectives lies on the authors and the information published in the journal should not be construed views of the editorial board or the parent institution, the AIISH. Neither the editorial board nor AIISH is responsible for any of the liabilities - legal, financial, scientific, or any other - that may arise from the published manuscripts. The authors are solely responsible for all these liabilities. All legal matters relating to the journal come under the jurisdiction of Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka at Bangalore.
